About the event
Suffolk’s story is bigger than any one era or family—it is a shared inheritance.
Common History encounters are gatherings where history is not simply presented, but experienced together. Through storytelling, historical interpretation, and guided dialogue, we explore how the layered histories of place, people, and relationship continue to shape the communities we live in today.
This session at the Phillips-Dawson House is part of Afternoon Conversations, a series that brings people together in Suffolk to reflect on the deeper story of the region—from the Nansemond homeland and early relationships, through 19th-century innovation, and into the present day.
Together, we will consider how the past lives in the present, and how a shared understanding of history can deepen belonging, trust, and shared purpose.
